Had plenty of changes in my life since I joined oppo. Hell I didnt even have a car. Now I’ve owned 4 and currently have two. We’ll survive Hulkamania somehow. If gawker can avoid posting a picture of a celebrity’s testicles or breasticles for a while the whole thing might even survive. Not that I particularly like gawker, but I do like oppo, jalopnik, deadspin and the remains of io9 that aren’t absorbed by gizmodo

Have some cars on my street, including my twingo, my dads clio campus and my ruined but great fun e36 compact.

I had never bought or owned a car either when I joined Jalopnik. I’ve since owned 2 BMWs (both E30 Touring), a Citroën (BX diesel), 5 Peugeots (2x 205 CTi, 205 GTi, 306 convertible, 406 coupe), a Mitsubishi (Galant wagon), a Subaru (Legacy wagon) and a VW (Golf mk2). That’s 11 cars. I still own 4 of those by the way; 205 CTi, 205 GTi, 406 coupe, VW Golf.

I’ve sold the above cars to Americans, Fins, Belgians, Frenchmen and Dutchmen. I’ve bought cars in multiple countries, including one in Germany sight unseen from Ebay.

I also physically met Oppo members in three different countries on two different continents.

I’ve had a 100+ email conversation with DeMuro and almost shipped him either an E30 Touring or a Delta Integrale.

When this place would shutter I... wouldn’t like it.

Yeah I’ve met a few oppos too, which never struck me as a good idea on other forums but on here everyone gets along so well (mostly). I would miss the place for sure.

Exactly. I’ve had a little tour on the island Martha’s Vineyard in the US, by a US Oppo member I had had hardly even spoken to before.

We will indeed survive, and probably Kinja/Gawker media will too. Even if Kinja does shut down, our community is much more than just the platform we are on. We are some kind of weird group, in which everybody has a different taste and oppinion, but that is accepted most of the time leading to a feeling of unity which is very rare on the internet.

Ps. Can’t you use part of the front garden to park one of the cars?

I know im looking really white trash right now. To be fair im working like crazy and then moving 300 miles to start an even harder job. My laziness is somewhat justified. And the bmw is a mess because it isnt solid enough to be worth painting and repairing correctly. Just a fun car for now thatll eventually be scrapped or sold on. It was 280 quid for a reason haha.

Ive had some decent times there but mostly its just boredom and being pushed to do more work when im not even trained for what i already do. The organisation and upper management is a total clusterfuck.
